What's Happening at CWA?

OCTOBER 2023

  • Catholic Worker Board and Leadership began the process of strategic planning for the next 3 years.  5 different focus groups met and shared their ideas about how CWA makes a difference in the Akron area and what we can do better.  The groups were: Volunteers, Spanish Speaking Guests, English Speaking Guests, Partners, and Elders.

  • A committee is planning a 25th Anniversary Celebration for November.

  • Students from Walsh Jesuit High School  and CWA volunteers assist with tutoring at the Peace House on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

  • Guests participated in Project Rise Trunk or Treat on Wednesday, October 25th and some participated in another trunk or Treat on Thorton.  Two CWA volunteers decorated their car and participated in Trunk or Treat.

  • On Saturday 11 Walsh Jesuit students and 1 Firestone student and CWA volunteers assisted the families in getting their yards ready for winter.

  • A guest crocheted a hundred hats for Summit Lake Coat Give Away on October 21st.

  • On October 31st the CWA guest families celebrated Halloween with a party that was planned by the students and advisors at Walsh Jesuit High School.
